The Northwest winds have been the determining factor this week, pushing plenty of bait into the area and setting the stage for some encouraging fishing. Bird 2 to Cape Naden has been the most popular section along the grounds, with the persistent 20 – 25 knot winds concentrating bait and providing consistent action while producing some high-quality Chinook throughout the week.

With the stronger Northwest winds, many boats have been fishing the Haida Drift (basically drifting with the strong winds along the western fishing shoreline). As the various runs continue to move through the area, the drift has been reliable for those looking to stay on the fish and keep rods bending.
There are some beautiful ocean chrome fish around right now, and anglers putting in the time are being rewarded. Both anchovies and herring have been producing well, as well as smaller spoons, so it’s worth having a variety of options on board and changing presentations if the bite slows down.

With plenty of bait being pushed into the area and fresh fish continuing to run through, the outlook remains very promising for the days ahead.
Tight lines!
