We’ve seen a welcome shift in the fishing pattern over the past week. A consistent NW wind has been pushing bait and salmon into our waters, setting the stage for some excellent fishing. While the wind made for a few bumpy rides on the water, the results have been well worth it. Daily Chinook action is on the rise, and anglers are leaving the dock each morning with high expectations, returning with big smiles and throwing high fives.
The Northwest wind is holding through the weekend and into the first few days of this upcoming week. Although this may bring a few choppy afternoons, it continues to concentrate fish around Bird Rock 2, Parker Point, and Yatze Bay. Be prepared for dynamic conditions, but know that the fishing is trending in the right direction.

Many anglers have been spending their days scraping the kelp in search of a large migratory Chinook. For those looking for fast-paced action, the 150-200 foot line from Shag Rock to Cape Naden has been producing plenty of eager Chinook in the 8-15 pound range, with the occasional larger fish mixed in.
Offshore, halibut fishing has remained strong whenever weather windows allow. With the Northwest wind stirring things up, areas such as The Peanut, Haliwood, and west of the Pinnacles continue to produce sore arms and big smiles.
If you’re heading to QCL soon, get ready, the classic Haida Gwaii magic is here. With the Northwest wind stacking bait and the Chinook following closely behind, this is shaping up to be a great season.
Tight lines,
QCL Guide, Nolan S.
