This week brought plenty of adventure, with some exciting weather to go along with incredible fishing!
Strong northwest winds rolled through, ranging from 15 to 35 knots. While that might sound like a challenge, it’s actually a huge advantage for our fishing grounds. These winds push baitfish tight to the shoreline, drawing in hungry Chinook. I definitely noticed more bait and, in turn, more fish. Add in plenty of sunshine, and the vibes have been high all week!
We’ve seen lots of Chinook in the mid to high 20-pound range hitting the dock, along with increasing numbers of Coho and, of course, plenty of Tyees. The hottest Chinook spots this week have been Klash, Bird 2, and Naden, but remember that fish are always on the move. Don’t be afraid to explore different areas.
The whales have been putting on quite the show as well – Humpbacks have been spotted offshore bubble feeding, breaching, and waving their tails. Orcas have been cruising through the area and we were even lucky enough to have them pay us a visit right in the harbour!
When it comes to gear, inshore Chinook have been loving daisy chain anchovies and naked herring, both holy roller and cut plug. Offshore, anglers have been finding success targeting Chinook and Coho with inline hoochies, inline spoons, inline anchovies, and daisy chain anchovies. Drifting around the Pinnacles and Hannah Bay has also been producing excellent Coho action.
All in all, the fishing has been absolutely on fire!
Catch a hog!
