Every morning starts with excitement on the dock. Coffee cups are in hand, stories from the day before are being shared, and everyone is eager to see what the ocean has in store.
As a guide, there’s nothing I love more than watching that anticipation build as we leave the harbour at first light. When the ocean is calm, the sunrise paints the horizon, and the possibilities feel endless. Lines go in, the music comes on, and before long, a rod starts bouncing. The reel screams, smiles appear, and suddenly everyone on the boat is part of the action. Whether it’s a Chinook peeling line off the reel or a hard-fighting halibut rising from the depths, those moments never lose their magic.

Some days, everything falls into place, and other days, the fish keep us humble. That’s what makes fishing so special. Between the laughs, wildlife sightings, stories shared, and fish that make it to the net, every trip becomes about so much more than just catching fish.
Being a female guide in this industry has taught me that success isn’t measured by the number of fish in the boat. It’s about patience, adaptability, and creating experiences that guests will remember long after they leave the water. Every day brings new challenges, but it also bring incredible rewards.

As we tie up at the dock and prepare for another evening at the Lodge, I’m already looking forward to tomorrow. Out here, every sunrise brings another chance at the fish of a lifetime and another opportunity to create memories that will last forever.
Tight lights, see you on the water.
QCL Guide, Karly S.
