It’s been an exciting week at QCL, with a noticeable shift in the fishery as we move further into July. The return of steady bait and some more forgiving weather has really kicked things into next gear.
Coho have officially made their presence known, and we’ve been seeing some great action just offshore of Shag Rock. Most fish are coming on the top half of the water column, and it hasn’t taken long for guests to connect when they find a pocket of bait. The bites are aggressive, and a few fish in the double digits have started to show up – a great sign of what’s to come.
Chinook fishing has also been productive, especially during the tide change. The inshore points have been the key areas, with boats finding success tucked in tight around the structure. It’s been a game of patience and timing, but the reward is definitely there for those who stick it out. Anchovies and small spoons continue to be the most consistent producers.
With everything trending in the right direction and smiles all around the dock, it’s safe to say the heart of the season is officially here and we’re loving every second of it.
