We’re only a couple weeks into the season here at QCL, and despite some classic southeast winds, things are off to a strong start.
The southeast weather pattern has kept most of the fleet working the eastern grounds, with Edenshaw Point seeing the bulk of the effort. Thankfully, it’s been producing solid numbers of Chinook and steady halibut action when the tides lineup.
Anchovies are always a dependable early-season choice, but the “Phat-E” spoon has been my go-to so far. It’s got that perfect slim baitfish profile with just the right flash — exactly what these early Chinook seem to be keying in on.

When we’ve had a break in the weather, bottom fishing has been productive. Craig’s and the Pinnacles continue to deliver quality lingcod and a nice mix of other bottom species. It doesn’t take long to put a good drift together when conditions allow.
Salmon are being picked up consistently at rigger depths between 27 and 45 feet, depending on the spot and tide. There’s no sign of Coho just yet, but with good bait showing in a few areas, we’re optimistic for what’s ahead.
It’s early yet, but the signs are all good — looking forward to a great stretch ahead.
