Hogust came early this year.
We had a trip in late July where over a dozen tyees were caught, with more than ten of those coming in just two days. Talk about a hog tide.
The big fish have been coming through consistently, with a lucky angler or two landing one nearly every day since.
Bait, whether you’re using anchovies or herring, has been very productive. Cut plug herring is my preference this time of year. When run properly, its slow, seductive roll is one of the most enticing presentations for big fish.
As usual, spots like Green Point, Klashwun Point, Bird Rock 2, Parker Point, and Cape Naden have all been good bets for hooking large Chinook salmon.

The Coho fishing has also been hot lately, with swarming schools found from the Pinnacles through Shipwreck and over to Shag Rock. On a good day, it doesn’t really matter where you drop lines offshore, you’re bound to get into some coho action. Anchovies work well for Coho, but spoons or hoochies paired with inline flashers can be just as effective, and sometimes even better. Troll faster than you might think for these silver bullets.
The wildlife is out in full force as always, with regular sightings of orcas, humpbacks, sea lions, eagles, and bears.
That’s all to report for this week. Good luck out there and tight lines.
