This week at Queen Charlotte Lodge, we’ve welcomed a shift in the fishing dynamics thanks to a steady Northwest wind that has been pushing bait and salmon into our grounds. While the wind has made for a few bumpy rides, the payoff has been well worth it. Daily Chinook action is on the rise, and guests are leaving the dock with high expectations and returning with high fives.
The Northwest wind is expected to hold through the weekend and into early next week. While it may bring a few choppy afternoons, it continues to concentrate fish around Bird Rock 2, Parker Point, and Yatze Bay. Be prepared for changing conditions, but know that the fishing is heading in the right direction.
Many anglers are spending their days scraping the kelp in search of a big migratory Chinook, while others are chasing steady action offshore. The 150 to 200 foot line from Shag Rock to Cape Naden has been productive, with a healthy mix of Coho and smaller Chinook keeping rods bouncing.
Halibut fishing offshore has also remained strong when the weather allows. With the Northwest wind stirring things up, spots like The Peanut, Haliwood, and west of the Pinnacles continue to produce sore arms and full tubs.
If you’re heading to QCL soon, get ready. The classic Haida Gwaii mid-season magic is kicking in. With bait stacking up and Chinook close behind, this is shaping up to be one of the best stretches of the season.
Tight lines!
